Halloween Makeup Ideas
Halloween is nearly upon us and when it comes to dressing up we find that there are two types of people – those who embrace it and let their creativity shine, or those who run for the hills! Personally, at Magees we LOVE Halloween! It is the one time of year that we get to let ourselves completely loose on our makeup collection and see what wild and wonderful transformations we are capable of! As an extra bonus, you can save money on buying an expensive costume that you will only wear once by not holding back with your makeup skills! Here are some creations that we found while looking for ideas for our own look this Halloween.
1) Sexy Cat (Image source: Stylecaster.com)
We love this simple yet smoldering cat look! This is so easy to create, all you need is some dark eyeshadow, a kohl pencil and gorgeous red cherry lipstick to make your lips really pop! The kohl pencil can also be used for the whiskers…simple! For something extra, why not invest in a tiny pot of glitter and dab it on the tip of your nose or in the corners of your eye for that extra sparkle.
For the Kohl pencil try Clarins Crayon Kohl Eye Pencil which has a really rich pigment for long lasting colour. For the lipstick we love Clarins Joli Rouge Perfect Shine Sheer. This comes in two gorgeous colours but for this look we recommend Coral Dahlia. To add something extra to your eyes, the Clarins Pretty Night Eyeshadow Palette has a few colours that are perfect to sweep over your upper lids to soften up that dark look. The Smokey Plum and Intense Dark Brown are our favourites!
2) Blue Spider Eye (Image source: beautyhigh.com)
We think that this look would dress up any costume, but in particular would be perfect with a cute black dress for a sexy spider look! It requires a slightly steadier hand than our first look, but it is still definitely do-able! All you need is an eyeliner with a tapered end to create those precision lines. One of our favourites is from our Blank Canvas range – the Borderlines Eyeliner Pen.
For the pink and purple shades around the eye, Lancôme Hypnose Eye Artistry Natural DO2 would be perfect, while the DO3 of the same range has some really vibrant blues to pack onto your lid once the base colours are done. All you need then are some gems to sick on around the eye! Perfect!
3) Toy Doll (Image source: Girlshue.com)
Another wonderfully simple idea, this look can be achieved with just five products: white face paint, a strong pink blusher, lipstick (pink or red), white eyeliner and some fake eyelashes.
For the blusher, the Blank Canvas Contour Powder and Blush Palette has everything you need, including white which can be used instead of face paint. To make your eyes pop the Lancôme Liner Plume in the shade Blanc is just what you need. Its high precision tip will make it perfect to customise your look exactly how you want it!
Magees Halloween Makeup Tips
Now that we have shown you our favourite looks, we wanted to share some of our dress up tips with you!
1) Primer
Firstly, do not underestimate the power of primer! Halloween is a time when all of the rules go out the window when it comes to what makeup goes where! You may find yourself with eyeshadow on your nose and lipstick on your cheeks – who knows?! Makeup products may be long-lasting, but if you are being super creative you don’t know how long they are going to last the night. Therefore primer is essential to helping your makeup stay perfect! The perfect solution is the Lancôme La Base Pro which is expertly designed to boost your makeup staying power.
2) Lipstick
We love creative lip ideas for a Halloween costume, but some people avoid it because at a Halloween party you will ultimately end up eating and drinking, therefore there is the chance that your lovely creation could be ruined. But don’t let this put you off! Simply spend some extra time taking steps to help your lipstick last longer. One way is to exfoliate and hydrate your lips before applying the lipstick. You can use a toothbrush to exfoliate, while a lip balm such as Lancôme Lip Lover will take care of the moisturising. Another tip is to use some translucent powder such as Lancôme Poudre Majeure Excellence on your lips for a lasting matte affect.
3) Contact Lenses
Our final tip is more about safety than anything else. Coloured contact lenses have become hugely popular in recent years, and while they are relatively safe to wear them normally, do not be tempted to wear them over your own prescription contact lenses! If like me, you are not blessed with 20/20 vision (very far from it in fact!) it is very tempting to wear your normal contact lenses for your Halloween party and then add coloured contact lenses over them. You might be told that this is safe to use, but opticians don’t recommend it and we definitely don’t think it’s worth the risk!
Whatever you end up dressing up as, from all at Magees we hope you have a great Halloween! Let your creative side shine!
