Office Makeup – Do’s and Don’ts
Ever wondered what kind of makeup you should wear to the office? Whether you are a high-powered exec meeting clients every day, or you work in a casual setting where everyone is laid-back, there are still some essential do’s and don’ts when it comes to the type of makeup you should wear to work. You want to impress, but not overdo it. Impressions are everything when it comes to progression in the workplace and, whether we like it or not, appearance will ultimately play a big part of the overall impression you give.
Here are our top tips for how to perfect your office makeup:
1) Natural Look
Although this might seem obvious, some people still continue to ignore the fact that a natural look is key to nailing your office makeup. Unless you work in a fashion store, nightclub or bar, the natural look should be your go-to. If you show up to work every morning caked in makeup people will wonder if you have a hot date afterwards, or they might question your priorities if it looks like you spent two hours getting ready that morning!
Key to the natural look is enhancing your natural features. A good way to go is a tinted moisturiser. Be sure it is long-lasting however, as you don’t want to be the one nipping to the bathroom every hour to re-touch your makeup!
Try Lancôme Hydra Zen Beauty Balm which is available in 3 natural colours.
2) Highlight
Office lighting can sometimes be very unflattering! The last thing you need is to look pasty under fluorescent lights when giving a presentation. A simple trick to help avoid this is by applying some highlighter to your cheekbones. This will also emphasise your cheekbones, something which all girls want!
Try Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Base which can be used as a stand-alone product or mixed in with your foundation.
If you’re having a stressful week at work and are feeling tired, another good idea is to apply illuminator around your eye contour to help reduce the appearance of tired looking eyes. We love Vichy Teint Ideal Illuminating Roll On.
3) Eyes
Although you may be in love with the smoky-eye or the cat-eye, there is a time and a place. Essential to your office look is to wear a natural eyeshadow that sweeps effortlessly over your lids. Try something from our Blank Canvas Neutral Eyeshadow Palette which contains 28 colours that you will fall in love with.
Another important tip for your eyes – no heavy eyeliner! This is our number 1 pet peeve for the office. Thick eyeliner is one of the things that instantly catches people’s eye and there is no getting away from the fact that it will make you look caked in makeup, even if you have done the rest of your face with a natural look. If you do wear eyeliner to work, we recommend just placing it in the outer corner of your eye. Instead of an eyeliner, try applying a dark eye shadow with a pointed brush and ‘smoke it out’. This Blank Canvas 5 Piece Brush Set has a blending brush that will work perfectly!
4) Lips
A lot of people argue over the debate of whether or not it is ok to wear a bright lipstick in the office. Sure, a power lipstick and give off an air of confidence. However, to play it safe we recommend a more neutral colour or lip stain. This Clarins Instant Light Lip Balm Perfector will do just the trick.
If you are new to a job we definitely recommend opting for the option above. After a week or so you can judge what is acceptable by observing those around you and you can always up your game with something like Clarins Joli Rouge Perfect Shine Sheer.
We hope these tips will help you to perfect your office look. Remember girls, there is a time and a place for heavy makeup! While we love a smoky-eye as much as the next girl, it won’t to you any favours in the workplace.
